This is the first episode of the groundbreaking “Film Noir” trilogy. Critics agree that the epic series is one of the finest from French director Cris Ubermann, who is quoted as saying “it’s my life work”.

“Film Noir” reunites the three principal talents from the cult hit “SUB: Way of Samurai”: Ubermann, Kate Crash, and Hiro Super.

The three-part movies shows the extent of Ubermann’s filmmaking chops better and more fully than the aforementioned action comedy.

Unlike the Samurai movie, Ubermann was in the project not only as director/ editor, but also as cinematographer.

Ubermann directs newcomer Krash Kato, a famed Japanese actor who plays the role of detective in “Film Noir”

The movies’ original concept credit goes to Kate Crash, who plays the deadly femme fetale with black feather and umbrella.

Her casting as the dark and demented character comes as surprise to many movie fans who remember the actress from the Samurai movie, in which she played the wild real-life historical character Musashi Miyamoto.

“Tokyo’s perennial teen idol” Hiro Super is becoming a housewife at the hands of makeup artist Junco.

As soon as Crash was cast in the villainous role, the director called his favorite actor Hiro Super and asked him to play multiple roles against the actress.

“With Ubermann at helm, there was no way for me to refuse the offer”, Super said at press conference.

Many of Ubermann’s best works have featured Super. The duo, according to critics, is one of the most endearing partnership in short movies today.

Hiro Super plays the role of school kid in “Film Noir”.
Ubermann acknowledges the chemistry between Crash and Super, which is often compared to the legendary odd couple of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

“The idea of Crash and Super in the same movie is poetic. They are my Cinema Paradiso,” Uberamann says.

There’s an ongoing debate in movie fandom that which is Lemmon and which is Matthau in Crash/Super acting team.

Both Crash and Super refuse to be called Matthau of the two for unknown reasons.
